Solarium and pool

There’s nothing like lying in the sun after a swim in the pool. We have made our sun loungers as comfortable as possible with cushions that will make your siesta more pleasant. You will find them in the cupboard next to the bathroom door.
You don’t need to bring your own pool towel. So that you don’t have to dry yourself with the shower towel when using the pool and solarium, ultra-fast drying microfibre towels are available. Remember to use them to protect the sun lounger cushions as well. The next guests will thank you for it.

Keeping the house cool in summer
This year we have exchanged all the windows in the house and we have installed shutters made of iroko wood that block solar radiation and allow good ventilation. To prevent the house from overheating on the hottest summer days, remember to keep all upstairs shutters closed during the day, especially in direct sunlight. Try, if possible, to keep the downstairs shutters closed as well, especially when evening falls and the sun is shining directly on the garden doors. At night, create draughts by leaving the windows open to allow the house to cool down. Although this area is very safe, you may feel more comfortable with the shutters closed at night. No problem: this will not impede air circulation inside the house. If you still feel hot during the night, there are fans in both bedrooms.
The Agaete Valley can be very windy: be sure to keep the windows and shutters always fastened so that they don’t rattle.
Books

I always take a couple of books on my trips, but sometimes I finish one and run out of stuff to read. In those cases, if I understand the language, I try to find something that interests me in a local bookshop. But that is not always easy.
Travelling in low-cost mode I found that many hostels have little libraries with books that former guests have left behind. Sometimes you can even take them with you. That’s why I decided to keep books in several languages in my house so that my guests always have something to read and don’t have to resort to TV or TikTok. As you can see, at Casa Mimosa we have made a point of keeping you away from screens during your holidays.
The books in the sideboard are there for you. If you’ve left your novel at home, or you’ve finished it and have nothing to read, or you’ve dropped your e-book in the sea and a wreckfish has devoured it, or maybe your mobile phone has broken and you can’t look at Instagram anymore. Don’t worry. Choose the book that interests you most and read it during your stay. If you decide to read a book, please follow these rules:
- Take care of the book, don’t fold the pages or underline them. Think about the next guest.
When you have finished reading your book, put it back in its place. If you like, leave a note for the next reader. He or she will be glad to find it. - The day of your departure arrives and you still have a hundred pages to go before you finish the novel? In that case you have my blessing to take the book with you. It would be a nice touch if in exchange you would leave another book with similar characteristics. That is, not a treatise on quantum physics in Japanese, but a more or less light novel in one of these languages: English, German, French, Dutch, Italian or Spanish.
- You’ve lost your mind buying souvenirs and your suitcase doesn’t fit? Of course you can leave us that novel you just finished. Thank you for contributing to our little library.
And remember: if you found the book in the house, it’s only because the previous user took care of it and left it in its place. Think of your karma. Future users will thank you.

Food
At Casa Mimosa we will do our best to ensure that you will always find tea, coffee, sugar, salt and oil on arrival. If you find anything else it is because previous guests miscalculated their purchases and have not been able to take it with them.
Take what you want, but please understand that we cannot be held responsible for the condition of the products. Any fresh food or packages that are left opened (except coffee or oil) and do not come in single-dose packets will have to be thrown away.
Games

We hope you enjoy the selection of board games we have prepared for you. If you are enjoying a family holiday and are looking for an after-dinner activity or if the weather is bad and you decide to stay at home during your stay, don’t hesitate to make use of the games.
- When you have finished playing, please leave the games as you found them, each one neatly packed in its box.
- Count the pieces and make sure that each set is complete.
- Take care of the box and make sure that your young children do not damage it.
- And remember: if you have been able to play, it is because the previous user took care of the game. Future users will thank you for it.
So, get them out and start playing! Why isolate yourself in front of your screen when you can share an evening of games together?

Tap water
The tap water at Casa Mimosa is perfectly safe for human consumption. Taste it. We invite you to use the glas jug to keep it fresh in the fridge or to take it to the table at meals. This will help you avoid buying and carrying bottles of water, with all the pollution and energy waste that this entails.
Have you been recommended to buy bottled water? In this article I explain why most Canarians still buy bottled water.
